RETRO VS MODERN COMPUTING

It always amazes me how gaming has changed over the years graphically. I remember the Amstrad and Spectrum days where your character seemed to be walking into an invisible fence half the time and getting stuck with what seemed to be nothing in their way!

But now matter how cool our games are created these days we always seem to have that glimpse of wanting to go back into the past to play the classic games like Air Wolf, Jack the Nipper and my personal favourite Oh Mummy - Loved that game! You know you got the music in your head already haven't you!?

Luckily with the joys of the Internet (what would we do without it?) we can usually get these games and play them online for free. Either that or you can try and get your hands on a Amstrad or Spectrum and start a bit of a retro collection.

Its crazy isn't it how some things are slowly phased out or are being phased out over the years - records and cassettes with Cd's, hi fi systems with iPods, Walkmans with MP3 players. It makes me wonder what things are going to be like in another ten or twenty years time.

But the big question is would we change it? All these new computer systems we have now, gadgets and electronics if we didn't know of their invention we would just be carrying on doing things how we normally did it in the 80's and be content with that.

Now that we have been spoilt with this fantastic technology we are constantly wanting more and inventors are constantly trying their hardest to come up with the next best thing.

As long as things don't turn all robotic and flying cars like a typical future view is seen I would be happy.... By the way yes that is Alan Sugar pictured!

UNTITLED JERSEY CITY PROJECT DRAMA SERIES: Ready To Play?

I love to get stuck into a good drama and the Untitled Jersey City Project is one of those that is sure to blow everyone away where you want to watch the next episode then the next and the next ...

Its currently in experimental viewing. A work in progress you might say. But I am already drawn into the gripping storyline. Even the music leaves you intrigued and suspicious of whats to come.

After watching snippets of episodes 1-8 the characters seem like they all have their own dark secret. All nice in public but definitely are not what they seem. Do they have something to hide or are they hiding from someone? Innocently caught up in dodgy dealings or are they the masters of their own crimes?

How could all this happen in such a - nice can we say? and newly built city full of swanky office buildings and condos. It seems the people don't match the territory in a place that's getting a reputation for fame, money and power. New area, same people - all with a game of their own to play. But do they risk it all with the prospect of ending up with nothing or go too far and end up dead? ... Welcome to Jersey City.

THE iPHONE 4S - A New Platform For Gamers?

Is it a coincidence that Rockstar announced its biggest game is heading to iOS devices in the same week the iPhone 4S became available? Grand Theft Auto III will be available on iPad2, iPhone 4S and selected Android devices. Rockstar also says it will be on legacy iOS devices.

It coincides with the tenth anniversary of the games release but Rockstar Games selection of “select new generation” iOS devices shows there is a definite tier for game creators and generators in terms of smartphone and portable devices. For those without an iPhone 4S, GTA III will also become available for select Android phone deals such as the Galaxy S2 – although not all Android handsets will be able to enjoy this game.

Grand Theft Auto III was one of Rockstar’s most popular games seeing the main character Claude delve into the action packed world of Liberty City. Its original platform was on the PlayStation 2 and PC and GTA III was the first game in the popular series to use a virtual 3D world (the previous two GTA games featured a 'top-down' birds-eye-view environment). Gamers could explore the open-world of the city, continuing missions but setting their own agenda. The GTA franchise had arrived, and now gamers will be able to carry it in their pockets.

Rockstar are not the first major games developer to announce that the iPhone 4S represents a new platform. Epic Games featured in the original iPhone 4S announcement with features of Infinity Blade 2 included in the trailer. Nintendo has also announced one of its biggest DS franchises is coming to iOS devices. Nintendo has had exclusive access to Level-5’s Professor Layton franchise since its inception. That deal is coming to an end so the popular franchise will soon appear in all appropriate app stores with a new game, Layton Brothers: Mystery Room.

The move by Level-5 shows the real leap in technology that has made smartphone and iOS devices a real competitor to hand held gaming devices. In terms of the iPhone 4S, the dual core processor and the a5 chip makes the device twice as fast as its predecessor the iPhone 4 and graphics, according to Apple, are seven times faster. When gaming this makes a real difference.

It is illustrative of dual core technology, how far it has moved the capability of the smartphone forward, making it a much more flexible device for a wide range of creative outlets and designers. Games run smoother and they’re even more realistic. And graphics-intensive apps perform better. Improved battery life means games can be played longer and on the move.

The fact that such popular franchises, that have been critical and commercial successes, are coming to iOS shows the real potential of dual core smartphones, like the iPhone 4S, to replace traditional hand held mobile gaming devices, like the Nintendo DS. Perhaps before long they will also replace traditional consoles, with DLNA allowing smartphones to be used as controllers for multiplayer games around a home TV.

Similarly, Apple’s wireless AirPlay facility, which enables users to steam 720p video from an app straight to the Apple TV shows the technology giant is even taking on the Wii. Firemints Real racing 2 will utilise this on the iPhone 4S with the mobile device acting as host while four players use the TV as a split screen. In the iCloud, gamers can play games on different devices, be it iPhone 4S or iPad 2.

Some gamers are calling for Apple to release a controller device that plugs in easily and opens up more opportunities for gameplay. Tilt and touchscreen, whilst impressive, might become limiting if games are running faster. The rafts of announcements coinciding with the release of the iPhone 4S contracts, however, show that for developers, this really is a game changer.

The £800 viewer comes with built in goggles and earphones that can be connected up to Blu-ray players or game consoles to see movies, games and music videos in peace!

The screen is OLED with quality graphics the same as what can be seen on flat screen TV's and laptops. Sony actually says its the same experience you can expect if you were to go to the cinema.

I think I'd like to try it, but not sure if being cut off from the whole world for a couple of hours on a regular basis is my kinda thing. I like to see whats going on around me. Plus I think I'd feel a bit like Robocop with that thing on my head!

THEME PARK iPHONE & iPAD APP COMING SOON

I love it when game developers bring old games back to life that we probably had forgotten about. The 1994 Theme Park game is one of them. If you remember it when it first came out 17 years ago you can imagine how amazing it would be graphically and game play wise today.

An application will be available to download towards the end of the year for the iPad and iPhone. It will be based on the original but with 3D graphics and with a FarmVille kinda gaming style.

The aim of the game will remain the same too - try and build the best and most exciting theme park with loads of rides, side stalls, refreshment stands and hire employees etc to try and please customers and imake a profit.

Added additions this time round will be the ability to make your park larger by buying plots of land (remember in the original you ran out of space and that was that!?). There are different themes to choose from too like Sci-Fi and pirates that have rides to match. Oh and if you really want to get into the game you can control the bouncy castles and pirate ships by shaking and swinging them!

The last time EA tried to improve this game was in 2008 on the Nintendo DS so it will be interesting to see how its all going to look on the app download.

NINTENDO 3DS PRICES TO BE SLASHED + Free Games Offer For Current Owners

Its good news for all owners and potential future owners of the Nintendo 3DS as the prices are about to drop right down. And for the people who already have one a special Ambassador Programme is in store for them so they don't miss out.

On 12th August, 2011 it is said that the prices for Europe are to be slashed by a third. Japan have already confirmed their price will fall from ¥25,000 (£196) to just ¥15,000 (£118).

The Ambassador Programme for those who already own a 3DS who bought it at the original launch price will include 10 free NES games and 10 free Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games from the Virtual Console. Free is always good! I think its a great idea they have done something like this as it shows they value all their customers.

But you will need to register for the programme before the 12th August, 2011 to qualify via the eShop. The games are not your 'bargain bucket' type ones either. North America already have games such as The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong J lined up.

This dramatic offer has came in place since sales started to drop -which is not surprising really with the other consoles and better game names on offer. And of course the standard Nintendo DS still going strong.

However Trade skills will be cut off at 100 ranks and players won't be able to do trades player to player, at the auction house or mailbox.

My laptop is on the way out or as I like to say its dying on me! After 6 years and now with my keys sticking, a couple of keys missing and the painfully slow browsing I think its a good time to say I could do with a replacement.

But with all the laptops out there its hard to know which one to choose. I prefer one with a good memory capacity, built in wireless, the ability to be able to run PC games effectively and most importantly be speedy.

After several years of not needing to buy a laptop a lot has changed since then and there are loads more laptops such as the Toshiba Satellite c645d laptop with different specs, sizes and colors. But I could buy one and end up spending all that money on it to find its rubbish.

INTERACTIVELY 'EXPLORE YOUR SENSES': Child Of Eden Game

Are you tired of your usual army shoot em ups and medieval fighting games? I like to play all sorts but I'm always on the look out for that action game that's a little bit different from the rest.

And Ubisoft's award winning fantasy game Child of Eden is certainly one of those. Its been created by established designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi who was the one who has brought us games such as Rez in the past. Plus the Child of Eden soundtrack features music from the cool Japanese band Genki Rockets.

Imagine really being able to 'explore your senses' by being put into a graphically futuristic world where you have to reproduce a human personality inside Eden. Your mission is one project known as Project Lumi. And on your journey you have to fight an unidentified virus that has invaded the archive of all human memories in the hope to restore peace and hope. Ooh sounds fascinating doesn't it?And even more so when you are interacting with the game using Xbox 360 Kinect. No remotes - just you and the game with a feeling that you're actually inside it. Just looking at the screen shots and trailers alone makes me eager to play it. I can really see myself getting engrossed in this game can you? It will soon be a battle of the best new console again if the Playstation 4 rumours are anything to go by. It's all very hush hush at the moment with no mention of a release date. But after a conference with Sony Investors work on the next Playstation has already began.

It doesn't seem like its been nearly five years since Playstation 3 was released is it? But I suppose with talks of a Nintendo Wii 2 and Microsoft's XBox 360 replacement it was only a matter of time before Playstation had to step up their game.

FAN CREATES BIN LADEN COMPOUND MAP FOR COUNTER-STRIKE

A download has become available for action game Counter-Strike that has left some people excited by the aspect and others frowning upon it.

This is because the download is a playable map for a recreation of Osama Bin Laden's Abbottabad, Pakistan compound that hit the headlines lately when it was raided by the USA military and led to his death.

In all fairness it seems a perfect fit really seeing as you fight against a team of terrorists in the game itself. But I can see why some people would think its not right seeing as the news of Osama Bin Laden's death is all still fairy new.

A fan called Fletch actually created the map which you can download from here. There will be an improved version released soon that he is currently working on.

He commented saying;

"It 'may be used as a base for a bomb or hostage map at a later stage. We haven't actually been to Abbottabad recently, but from what we can tell from comparing the screenshots and news pictures, it looks like a fairly accurate recreation."

"What a lot of people don't seem to understand is that the only thing this map has in common with Osama is location. I can see how people would think it is in bad taste, but honestly if that's your opinion you may as well protest the whole game (as well as many others)."

NINTENDO Wii 2 SET TO TAKE GAMER WORLD BY STORM?

It will soon be the battle of the best consoles again if recent news about a Nintendo Wii 2 are anything to go by.

The new super console codenamed as 'Project Cafe' is reported to be much more powerful than a Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. Features include a built in 6 inch HD touch screen, front facing sensor bar camera and dual analogue control sticks, D-Pad, two triggers and bumpers on the controller.

The screen in particular sounds really interesting with the suggestion that you will be able to use it as the main controller and stream full games to the screen from the console. So in a sense it will act like a television.

It looks like we are going to have to wait till June 2011 to find out more though and then it won't actually be released till late 2012! Boo! ...

All this hype for something that's not out for another year? Come on Nintendo get a move on!

OUR LOVE OF TECH TOYS: Gadgets, Remote Control Cars ...

If you're into your computer technology you're probably into your gadgets too. I had lived with this obsession with my older brother for years. If it wasn't video games he was playing he was buying accessories for his laptop or racing his remote control cars around the house. Now I'm a tech freak. I wonder where I get it from!?

Maybe obsession is the wrong word. I think he liked to call it a hobby haha! And these days things are no different with people collecting different tech items.

I think my brother still has his remote control cars stored in our parents loft somewhere. He probably had over ten. But I told him people are actually using RC cars as serious tech play things and use them in a sport where they will race their remote control cars against other competitors on miniature racetracks.

As well as the enjoyment of racing the car you can make yourself quite a collection and even customize your rc's to make sure yours is the best on the road.

There used to be a time where remote control cars would just be bought for children but I do actually like the idea of customizing my own car. I'm giving myself ideas now. Maybe I could sneak a couple of my brothers old ones and see what I could do. Plus its much safer than driving a real sports car isn't it?

I can just imagine several of my cars lined up on the racetrack raring to go. Perhaps I could encourage my friends to have a go too and we could have a few friendly matches.

Oh the joy of our tech toys. You gotta love them though haven't you? There is always one out there to suit someone - even the non tech lovers.

FACEBOOK APP UPDATE FOR iPHONE & iPAD: Version 3.4

A new updated version of Facebook on the iPhone and iPad has been released. the 3.4 version has made the news feed interface better, gives you a Google map view for places, check into events you're attending and probably the most favoured improvement - the ability to be able to unfriend people.

To upgrade to the 3.4 version you can do so by pressing 'update' in the App store. But be aware you will need a device running iOS 3.0 or later.

Thanks to Sony and their make.believe campaign they have inspired a group of gamers who managed to give us fantastic games like Little Big Planet 1 and Little Big Planet 2 on the Playstation.

make.believe likes to give out the message that Its all about bringing out peoples imagination and using their creativity to make something a reality.

The Little Big Planet games are an excellent example of turning a a thought that was probably just a dream at the time into now one of the best selling Playstation games. Where else would you be able to build your own levels and characters and then actually play them unless you were a professional game designer?

Also lets not forget the famous Little Planet mascot Sackboy. And yes you can actually create a sackboy version of your own too. Think you can make a better one than the original?

Just for fun I made my own version using the Sony make.believe Sackboy Facebook Application. You probably noticed I have a logo here on my blog header that's a smiley face style character? So I took the idea of my crazy gamer guy and made him into a Game FreakZ Sackboy baby! (see above) - cause gaming can be enjoyed by all ages! And with that small thought again I was able to put my vision into a reality just like the make.believe message suggests.

Would you like to create your own sackboy with a theme that means something to you? It could be your blog, based on a passion you love or even based on yourself.

The application is really simple to use. Even my 3 and 6 year old boys had a go. I just about got them away from it for a while so I could tell you guys about it. Plus I wanted a few more go's on it myself!

Just use this link here and from there you can select a colour, features clothing and choose accessories for your Sackboy. Save it and download it if you like and share with your friends on your Facebook wall. Maybe you could encourage them to make one too and see if they can create a better one better than yours. HOW TO CLEAR YOUR CACHE & COOKIES

Have you ever found that you can be using a website for weeks or months then all of a sudden next time you go to sign in you aren't able to? This usually comes with an error message of some kind or even one saying the site is down for maintenance when its not.

This 'maintenance message' happened to me a few times with my online banking website and I found out that I needed to clear my cache and cookies. You will probably come across these terms at some point in your computer or laptop life!

Make sure that there is no maintenance going on though if you do get that message before you waste your time. My message came up continuously for 3 full days.

If you use Mozilla Firefox and want to go ahead and clear your cache and cookies but are unsure how to do this you can follow these simple steps then hopefully you will be able to sign in again.

To Clear Your Cache:

* Using the toolbar at the top of your screen select tools
* Clear recent history
* In the time range to clear section tick the boxes for at least Cache and Cookies (I personally checked them all apart from site preferences). Then in the drop down box select 'everything'.

To Delete Cookies:

* Using the Start button found at the bottom left of your computer select Control Panel
* Once inside select Network and Internet Connections
* Then Internet Options
* Once there you will notice the general tab at the top has already chosen. You will be able to see an area in the middle titled Temporary Internet Files - Click Delete Cookies
* A message will pop up saying Delete all cookies in the temporary Internet Folder? Click OK

- Be aware though that once you have done this any saved passwords or user names that are automatically filled in on websites that you use may be wiped and possibly the auto filling browsing suggestions in your search the web toolbar (if you use one). This is nothing major though and by typing your information in again as you did before it will be stored for the next time you use in the future anyway if you want it to -

These methods worked for me effectively and I was able to log into my online banking account again.

NEW GOOGLE FEATURE: The +1 Button

As you are probably very aware of when your searching for something it can be really annoying sifting through say the first 5 or more results that pop up on the front page. But what if your most relevant result was on the 10th page?

Most people will tend to go through the first 2 or 3 pages maximum before they think of other search options. That's where Google's new +1 button comes in.

You know the 'Like' button you get on Facebook? Its very similar to that. For every search you do results will come up as normal but with the +1 button at the side of it. The idea is if you find that result useful and relevant you just click the +1 button and this will count as a vote for that resource. This is the same logic for any side ads that appear on Google's main page.

Your vote can be shared with others or you can just set your preferences as private. The more votes the result gets the better the chance it gets on moving up on the results search.

This way its not about how fast a site is able to get the content indexed in Google and going off traffic etc. Its all about what you the viewer wants to see and you are the one in control to help contribute where this result should appear making it fair to all websites.

At the moment its just an experiment and Google will be phasing this into their system worldwide a bit at a time starting with the Google.com English search.

Its an opt in service so you don't have to take part but if you want to join in as well as providing feedback to Google you need to have a Google account. If you don't have one you can sign up here. Then you will have to turn on the feature found in Google's experiment settings which you can access from here. If you change your mind you can come back to this page and 'Leave' the experiment also.

As a technology blogger I have very strong views about what content goes on my blog. If I don't feel its got anything to do with technology and is not going to be beneficial to my readers I won't include it. Its all about tying it in with my niche - So no fashion or dieting posts over here guys!

There is nothing worse than going through a blog with irrelevant content. From time to time I like to do a few sponsored posts too as long as I can fully express my own opinion, but getting jobs to fit in with my theme here can be quite tricky at times.

NINTENDO 3DS BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH FIX

There always seems to be some major problem that comes up with the use of a gaming system that gets everyone in a panic. You have got the red ring of death for the Xbox 360, yellow light of death for Playstation 3, Windows blue screen of death and probably a few more too.

The recently released Nintendo 3DS hasn't escaped a faultless reputation so far. They are calling it the 'Black screen of death'. This has been reported that whilst playing the built in or cartridge games the console system has crashed with the only option to turn off and reboot. Then any saved data is lost by doing this.

As frustrating as it sounds it has been advised that you can now actually download the latest firmware system update online which came out about a week ago. This should prevent the problem from happening again.

Another option is to try reformatting the SD card. But if these solutions don't stop the it then you'll need to take in or send off to a Nintendo Customer Service Centre.

However the majority of the people who reported the problems to Nintendo have said this has solved the issue so hopefully you should be O.K.

MICHAEL JACKSON: THE EXPERIENCE - Pre Order For Xbox 360 Kinect

I love the way gaming experiences have changed and have become more interactive to make you feel like you're really part of the game.

The Xbox 360 Kinect is a perfect example. It takes away the use of a remote and just puts you and your movements in control of the way things turn out.

And with it come some fantastic games. The dancing ones are particularly interesting to me as you can have fun keeping fit but without thinking its exercise.

The Michael Jackson Experience is a recent game that caught my eye. The musical legend that is Michael Jackson and his famous dance moves are put together in this fun challenge where it will have you busting out The Moon Walk in no time at all!
You can dance along to classic songs such as Smooth Criminal, Bad, Beat it, Billie Jean and more that are all based around the music videos. All whilst using a replica of Michael's sequin glove that comes with the game. How cool is that!?

The game lets you play as Michael, a backing dancer or even as a duet that you can do with friends and family. There is also a one of a kind singing feature that really lets you get into the feel of things.

BENEFITS OF USING A USB FLASH DRIVE

I've lost count the amount of times over the years that my laptop has defaulted and I have had to re-store it back to it's original settings.

This has been down to unexpected viruses, my computer load screen crashing - you name it! And of course once you re-set you end up losing all your work i.e file documents saved in the word programme, downloads, bookmarks, photos etc.

So I started using a USB drive to back up my work. These are simple to use even for the non computer savvy people. The memory sticks have so much storage depending on which one you buy. You just put the USB end into the USB port area at side of your laptop. Then when sucessfully connected a menu will pop up asking if you would like to open and view documents.

I use that option then each time I just copy over everything in 'my documents', 'my pictures' and 'my music' into the drive save area. Then if I did have to reset my computer again I would just plug it in my laptop and everything is saved in there. I tend to do my back ups about once a week.

If I told you that you could buy a games console for about $490.000, you would probably think it was this new super machine with amazing graphics, games and all sorts of features.

When in fact the World's most expensive game console is just a Wii. The Nintendo Wii Supreme to be precise, and the price tag is for the 22k gold coating and 78 quarter cut diamond buttons.

Designer Stuart Hughes took 6 months to produce this. But he never thought to design a gold controller to go with it it seems. Well that will look a bit strange with the plastic one now wont it!?

Whoever bought the console would have to be a collector for sure and have more money that they know what to do with. It would have to be called Limited Edition as the designer would be lucky to get one buyer for it at that crazy price.

I would be afraid to scratch it if I played it. Whats your thoughts on the Nintendo Wii Supreme?

INTRODUCING THE NINTENDO 3DS

Overview:

If you love your Nintendo DS this one is sure to beat all the other editions hands down. I give you the Nintendo 3DS.

This console gives you the ability to be able to play your games with full stereoscopic and a paralax barrier technology 3D effect without the use of any glasses.

It's not just the 3D aspect that has changed either. The 3DS comes packed with other new features such as a camera that takes 3D photos, 3D movie playback, motion control and visuals that would give the PSP a run for it's money.

Here are several of the new features and what they do:

Analogue stick
Known as the slide pad. It's a round button controlled by your thumb, like how the control pads are on the Xbox 360 etc but a flat version instead.

Motion and Gyro Sensors
Think of how a Ninetndo Wii remote works. The sensors work in the same way detecting your movements and gestures. For instance for a driving game you could tilt the screen to steer your wheel. You could also make use of the camera to be your eyes in a first person shooter game.

Camera
Takes 640 x 480 size pictures. There is also a front facing camera that is useful where you are able put your own face into the games on some.

Enhanced Wireless Communication
You don't have to be actively playing a game to swap data and content. You can put it into sleep mode and it will still communicate with other 3DS consoles that are nearby. Plus instead of using fussy menus to activate your wireless you can simply switch on a button instead.

Top storage and access points
The stylus can now slide in at the top instead of the side as well as the charger access point being there too. This improvement is to improve gameplay, as before the empty hole slots may have gotten in your way.

SD Cars Slot
For expanded memory as well as an internal system memory.

Home Button
Takes you to your system menu.

You will still be able to play any DS games from previous editions, although it is very unlikely the 3D graphics will work on those.

As of yet no official release date has been confirmed, but there is talk it could be at the peak Christmas time 2010 season or early 2011. No doubt Japan will be first to get their hands on this exciting most wanted handheld.

I love these type of stress relief games where you can release all your anger via your computer. In this fun game it is a sofa you use.

You can use several different types of tools to cut, rip, shoot, shed, flail and more to destroy the sofa. The aim is to get a 100% destroy score and try and beat the other competitors scores.

The sofa bash game is a quick simple game to play. Once you have used all the weapons you may not want to play again as it becomes a little old.

The game probably could have been more interesting if different sofas were used and you could get different rip effects each time with the same weapon.

Gameplay:

Third person take on the Transformers franchise. You can play as iconic characters such as Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Starscreen and many more.

There are 5 multiplayer modes including Death Match, Team Death Match and your other basic multiplayer modes. Gain XP with your created Transformer to unlock new weapons, new moves and new abilities.

You can play the campaign mode through with your friends. This game features escalation mode where you take on wave after wave of enemy.

It's actually based around the G1 Transformers (Generation 1) with a blend of the films.

Result:

This is only for fans of the series really, whereas others may not enjoy it so much.
Considering it's only a Transformers game it's quite good.

Do you remember the board game Battleships? That brings back some childhood memories.

Now you can play Battleships free online. Here is how the game works:

For those who have not played Battleships before the aim is you have to try and sink your opponents ships by seeking out their hidden location on the map where their ships are.

This is done by selecting one of the square spaces on the map. If a ship is not there it does nothing. But if there is you will see a ship blow up.

To start you can enter your name or play as anonymous. It's just for scoring purposes really.

You will then have to decide where to put your several ships on the grid map. When you have set down all your ship locations the game starts.

You are playing against the computer where both of you will take it in turns try and find each others locations to destroy the ships.

I found it an easy game to play that would be suitable for most ages really. I would have preferred more colour, bigger screen and better graphics but I guess that's just online games for you.

I remember playing Boggle as a child. I know it's still around now, but the more modern games seem to take over these days. I always think the simple classic games are the best.

You can play Boggle online for free, and even get your name up on the leader board if your good enough.

You start the game with 3 minutes, where you have to try and find as many letters as you can in the 16 letter grid.

You can search for your words by going go up, down, diagonal or whatever as long as the letters are next to each other and join to the others to make a word.

When your time is up you get scored. If you put any words down that are not in the dictionary you lose points, so make sure your certain before you type down random words!

It is a simple game, but fun to play. It makes you want to play again and again to try and beat yours and others score.

England's Robert Green moments after his goal slip

It's the World Cup match everyone is talking about at the moment. With England scoring in the first 4 minutes. Then the goalkeeper Robert Green letting a USA goal slip passed his fingers, ended with a final score 1-1.

How gutted was the poor guy? I say poor, but some of the media blame him of course and others say that it was down to 'nerves'.

Even after when he saved a difficult goal attempt later on people did not forget. Maybe if England had won the story would have been different?
It was a tense match full of several yellow card's, injuries, numerous fouls on both sides and speculation that certain players should not have been played.

There were alot more goal attempts by England but the USA goal keeper seemed to be back on form again after the first goal loss. Much to England striker's Wayne Rooney's annoyance that you could see in his face as he tried to score.

Un-worried Fabio?

England manager Fabio Capello said afterwards "For the future, I’m not worried,"

He then went on to say;

"The most important thing is to see the spirit of the team and also the physical condition,"

"We created a lot of chances to score. Seven. Twice in front of the goal, one for Shaun Wright-Phillips, one for Emile Heskey. Alone. Absolutely alone. But this is football."

They just don't seem to make any games today like the old classic Connect 4 for instance.
But with today's modern technology the older games are brought back to life online.

Connect 4 Online is a simple game to play- just like the board game. You are challenging the computer, so great if you want to have a go on your own.

I'm sure you remember the rules but if you don't the aim is to get 4 of your colours in a row to win. This can be horizontally, vertically or diagonally. To try and stop your opponent from winning you need to block their potential 4 in a row with your chips (example shown above)

The gameplay is simple. You drop then the computer drops - that is all.

The drop noise can get a bit irritating after a while, but other than that it's an OK game to play. Ideal if your a little bored at work!

RIO FERDINAND OUT THE WORLD CUP WITH KNEE INJURY

After a knee injury England Captain Rio Ferdinand will not be able to play in the World Cup for this time round.

The Manchester United player hurt himself during training in South Africa from a tackle, and was rushed to hospital soon after. After he left he was informed he wouldn't be able to play for at least 6 weeks and would be on crutches for the time being.
There is talk of Tottenham Hotspur's Michael Dawson coming in as a replacement, and Steven Gerald taking on the role as Captain.

It seems to be an unlucky time for England at the moment. Star player David Beckham couldn't play this time round either also due to an injury.

The tackle isn't being considered as suspicious. According to the teams sources it was just a normal tackle.

Now it's just a case of deciding who will play for England's next match on the 12th June, 2010.

RED DEAD REDEMPTION REVIEW

Overview:

* The game is set in America during 1911 where Wild West is dying out.
* After federal agents threaten to harm your family, your job is to search for some gang members that were once your friends.
* It's a case of fighting for survival and for your family.

Gameplay:

It's Grand Theft Auto meets every Clint Eastwood western film. There is the same premise as all the GTA games. The target system and controls are familiar. Even the map and side missions have the same look and feel which isn't a bad thing at all.

Choose to do the story any way you like i.e missions how and when you want, good or bad or will you choose honor or fame?

You have got a huge array of weapons and the map is even bigger, which is helped by the fact you get around by horse.

There is plenty to do other than the main story like hunting, mugging, collecting bounty's, helping strangers with anything from stealing a horse back to rescuing a 'whore' from being kidnapped, playing poker or looking for gang hide outs for weapons and money.

Result:

This game makes GTA 4 look small and graphically tired. If you don't play this in my opinion you are probably missing the game of the year so far.

This application is for Orange mobile phone customers and is similar to an in-car satellite navigation system, but allows you to use it anywhere and away from your car too such aswalking routes.

Depending on what plan you have this is free or you can pay a small premium each month for it.

If you do have it for free you have also got the option to upgrade to the premium version which includes traffic updates and speed camera alerts.

The application knows exactly where you are. I found it wont even start navigating until you have started out on your journey onto the road.

You have the options of typing in street names, town and/or postcode. A Loudspeaker voice activation will tell you the way to go and re-route you if you take a wrong turning.

If your lost you can instantly see where you are by selecting the 'Map me' tab. A road map will appear pointing to your location, and by selecting any point or road on the map it will tell you the exact address including house number and postcode.

There is also the option of searching for important places nearby such as petrol stations, parking, restaurants, emergency rooms, tourist attractions, schools and alot more.

Another advantage is being able to use the map service abroad as it is made available in 26 countries.

I have been really impressed with it. It is just like an in-car satellite system but i think it's better as you have your mobile phone on you all the time, meaning you have the application with you too.

To note: You will need to keep your phone upright either in a Sat Nav holder on your dashboard or someone holding it, as it thinks your going the wrong way and in a different driving position if it's tilted.

Gameplay:

This FIFA has had a big overhaul gameplay, graphically and game engine wise. The AI is better than previous titles. You have got realistic ball control i.e balls will bounce realistically to your tackle and 50/50 balls occur more often.

Certain players stand out due to their appearance, skill or both. Commentary is alot more up to date and specific.

There are two new modes - Online World Cup where you compete with other players to qualify for the group stages then onto the main knockout rounds and:

Captain your Country Mode where you take on one players role through the whole World Cup, fight for your place in the team till you get the armband then lead your country to the finals.

Result:

Easily the best football game out. Only up to date till after the World Cup though, but by then you will have FIFA 2011 anyway. If this is anything to go by Pro Evo is going to have alot of work to do to beat this.

BEING AWARE OF FAKE ANTI VIRUS SOFTWARE POP UPS

I have my own anti-virus software programme installed, but myself and others i have read about have had a message pop up on the screen saying their computer is infected and will need to install a software by clicking the link in the box.

Luckily i saw this didn't look right and clicked off it. But search engine giants Google have researched and found that many people have clicked the box and their computers have become infected with a malicious code.

Example 2

The software turns out not to be real and will actually infect your computer, as well the scammers being able to get your personal information from it. Sometimes it could suggest you need to make a payment for the software, robbing you of your money for something you wont get.

Google's usual tools that filter out these type of fake websites have somehow been overridden by the hackers by moving between domains quickly.

My advice is with all pop ups be cautious. I wouldn't click any pop up boxes personally. If you have an anti-virus software programme already learn how it works and how they would notify you if there was a problem.

And if you do install a software make sure it's a well known company like AVG, Norton Anti Virus etc. Consider looking up customer reviews. If there are none why is that you think?

Most if not all anti virus software companies will always offer you a free trial period first without any upfront payment.

A few examples of pop ups are shown in this post, although this wont be all of them! Some will say to add software whereas others might say you need to clean up your computer. Basically anything asking you to download something to heal your computer.

If you do have a pop up appear DON'T click it. Click the cross in the corner to close it, then run your own anti-virus software and do a scan of your computer to be on the safe side.

Ever wanted to get out of a certain situation? It used to be we would asked our mates to text us with an emergency so we had to leave, or getting someone to text a little white lie.

But now you can do it yourself with this fake text iPhone application. You simply type in a name and write the message you want (when no one is looking of course!).

Then just show the message to the person. It will look just like a proper message. The only unfortunate thing is there is no message alert, but it could still work out.

If you think your a perfect parker in the real world, this fun valet parking game will keep you on your toes when you have to control several cars at a time! It reminds me of the Traffic Rush iPhine application

You have to control and guide the different coloured moving vehicles into their spaces i.e If it's a red car it needs to go in a red space.

When you guide the car it creates a dotted path which the vehicle will follow exactly. The straighter you can get the car in the space the more points you get.

Sounds simple? But then you have to make sure that the vehicles don't crash into any of the others or any obstacles as you are trying to park them. Otherwise it's game over.

There are different levels that you work your way through: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Marathon. You will unlock more levels as you go along, and of course the games will get harder and give you more situations to deal with for example; limiting you with so many spaces to take as there are already cars parked in the spaces and a train that comes across the middle of the screen.

When you keep crashing it just makes you even more determined to play again!

* Every decision you make effects the storyline and outcome of the situation.

Gameplay:

The control system of this game is unique. You are basically watching a film and pressing buttons and performing movements with the control stick when icons appear on the screen as different decision choices you can make.

The game will all unfold at your own pace and there are no time limits. There is no right or wrong answer or decisions. It is your decision as the player to make. Some will have consequences whereas others will give you an advantage or a better scene to play.

The movements are a bit fiddly and the camera angles don't exactly help you out at times. The interactive icons allow you to do anything such as simple tasks like getting something out of your pocket, picking a lock, opening a car door, having a shave and more complex ones like fight scenes, chasing/running, investigating crime scenes, having a relationship etc.

I wont give too much away about the plot or game as it's a game with twists, turns and an ending that will shock you.
Result:

Considering the game is only 10-12 hours long it is long enough. You probably wont play another game like this. An absolute must buy.

Overview:

* Holding your Wii remote copy routines created by professional dancers. The remote picks up your movements and you will get rated a 'Great' OK or an 'X' meaning bad for each move as you fill up your score gauge.
* Pictogram's appear on the bottom of the screen to help you prepare for your next move
* 3 game modes: Quick Game, Challenge and Warm up. The Challenge lets you choose from 3 game types with all of them being great for group or single play.
* Select the amount of rounds you want to play and choose from over 30 songs you want to dance to.

Gameplay:

This is a really good game if your looking to get fit in a fun way, and is great for all the family to join in. All you have to do is copy the moves, but for something that sounds easy isn't when you have to actually do it.

Once you get the hang of it and start remembering the moves it's great, and you will feel like your having a good work out after just 3 rounds! A round lasts for a whole song or you can choose the 'Short Version' which is about 30 seconds of the song instead.

The 3 Challenge games are fun where you can play on your own or in a group of up to 4 people. The Strike a Pose game is fun as it's a red light green light theory. So when the light goes red you stop dancing etc. Think of it like musical statues!

Lyrics are included in the song too, but you wont really get much chance to look at them!

In a few months time we will all be gripped to our living room seats, or match seats if we are lucky cheering on our country for the World Cup 2010.

After 4 years this time the cup will be held in South Korea. Sometimes people think if it is in your country you have a better chance of winning for some reason.

Maybe it's down to the fact that they have got more of their fans behind them, as opposed to other countries where the fans would have to travel abroad instead.

But on checking some live World Cup odds it's looking a bit unlikely for South Korea who are nearer the bottom end. Spain however seems to be the favourite at this time, with England falling in at a healthy 3rd favourite.

England will be the first to play against the USA, who are kinda in the middle of peoples favourites for odds as i write this. so it will be interesting to see if either country falls up or down in their chances by the time the match starts, and which one will actually win?

With England's previous victories over the USA in the past, i am going to say they probably have a better change of winning. But it can all change on the day! ..... Who are you backing?

HIDDEN OBJECT ONLINE GAME

If your into online hidden object games, then you will probably like this one.

Unlike most where the objects can be quite hard to see or the room is too cluttered, this game is a little more easier on the eyes you might say.

You have 3 levels you can choose from in any order you desire. If you have not played these games before the aim is to find all the objects in the room from a list.

As you find the objects the items will get marked off the list until you find them all. If you get stuck there is a chance to get a hint.

This game is quite simple, and great for kids too as you don't have a time limit and you don't get penalized for selecting the wrong item like on alot of Hidden Object Games.

To some that might sound boring and un-challenging, but it can get frustrating when you cant find what your looking for, and with no time limit to end it all!

I thought it was an ok game you could probably play a couple of times and that's it. The music in the game irritated and distracted me personally, so you might want to mute it!

FIND OUT WHO'S NOT FOLLOWING YOU BACK ON TWITTER

For those of you that use Twitter your probably curious to see if the people you are following are following you back?

It's the same if people are following you, but your not sure if your following them back or not.

Unfortunately it doesn't give you this information from your Twitter account page.
But i was really pleased to find a cool site that tells you this called Friend Or Follow.

All you have to do is type in your Twitter name and this will bring up a list of people not following you back and who you are not following back (see picture above).

As well as that there are other features such as The Top 100 followed and The Top 100 followers.

If you decide you want to stop following them just click the persons Twitter icon, and this will open up in a separate tab where you can sign into your account from there.

Then clicking the sun symbol next the 'lists' tab select unfollow (persons name).

Tip: Once you have signed in from the first person's page, you can then click on several picture icons at a time instead of individually, and you will already be signed in - (hold down Ctrl button and press your mouse key on picture icons).

* Compared to the first game the co-op experience is even better with new moves and tactics
* The most advanced weapon customisation that has ever seen in a video game
* Explosive online multiplayer modes that give you a unique co-op play.

Gameplay:

You play the game as a third person over the shoulder view. It's has a Gears Of War meets Ghost Recon feel to it.

Collect money from missions which you can spend on upgrading your weapons, and
find and collect secret weapon parts and customize them however you want to.

You are also able to create your own mask online to use in the game, so you can stand out from the crowd (go to www.armyoftwo.com to do this).

The game consists of 7 chapters, which range from buildings to zoos. They also give you moral dilemmas for example to execute a tiger or not. Both dilemmas carry different consequences.

New moves include the 'Mock Surrender' and the 'Quick Draw', which helps when your outnumbered.

Result:

The game is better than the first one, but it could do with some bugs being fixed.

TOP iPHONE APP: Traffic Rush

This is a cool fast pace game where you have to control the traffic during rush hour. Your job is to make sure every vehicle can get to the other side without crashing.

All you have to do is use your fingers to speed the vehicles along passed the junction to the other side or stop them. Sounds easy doesn't it? But is it so simple when you have about 6 or more cars to guide on the screen at the same time?

A Crashing Moment

The aim of the game is not to crash the vehicles into each other, and keep the traffic flowing.

I think this is a fun game which will have you thinking it's quite easy at first, until more traffic comes that is. But then you will want to play it again and again.

If you play it let me know what your personal best was. My best so far is about 149 ...

NINTENDO DS R4 CARD BENEFITS

If you have a Nintendo DS, DS Lite or a DSI there is so much more to them than just playing games.

You may have heard of a r4 card? This is a special device that when using a memory card with it, allows you to watch movies, browse pictures, read e-books, listen to music, play homebrew games and alot more.

The way it works is you download the content you want onto your computer, then 'drag on drop' into your memory card folder. This is accessed when you plug in the nintendo r4 USB to your computer.

The memory card (that is bought separately by the way) goes into the USB. Card readers can take up to a 2GB Trans Flash memory.

It may sound a bit complicated if your not very computer savvy, but i assure you it is quite simple, and once you know how to do it you will be downloading all the time!

I own a r4 nintendo card, and i must say i wouldn't be without it. I love the fact you don't need any batteries or wires to run it. The USB connection controls and stores everything you need.

THE WORLD'S HARDEST GAME: Can you beat it?

Level 1

When i heard about the World's Hardest Game i must admit i was curious, and thought surely this game cant be as hard as it makes out.

The games quote is ' I guarantee you this is harder than any game you have ever played and ever will play'

Level 2

That was until it took me about 5 minutes just to get passed level one! When i passed i was amazed, then i had level 2 which was even harder and so on.

Level 3

The way you play the game is you are a red square, and you have to get passed the blue circles without hitting them. You also have to collect the yellow spot(s) along the way, then make your way to the green beacon safe area!

Level 4

By the way there are 30 levels! I only managed to get to number 4. How far can you get? .... Let me know!

WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY SAVINGS

Technology is continuing to move on over the years. More recently we have had the option to cut the wires and go wireless.

It wont be long before our TV's, DVD players, appliances and all sorts will be able to go wireless too i'm sure!

There are items i have heard of lately that i didn't even realize you could get to be wireless such as printers and fax machines.

It is so much more convenient not to have wires dangling when your trying to use something, or find a plug near where your item is.

For future purchases i will definitely be looking at wireless, but i also like to save money along the way too, so i will be considering using Radioshack Coupons over at the Super Amazing Savings website.

FLICK FISHING iPHONE APPLICATION

Don't fancy sitting around fishing in the real world? You could always try this Flick Fishing iPhone Application instead.

You can play in 2 different modes, and take part in tournaments from around the world. Or if you prefer to go solo the 'fishing mode' will let you fish from 6 locations on your own.

The basics of the game are pretty simple really - catch a fish, then release it back into the water.

Fish species can be anything from Bass to a Sword fish. But you can also catch funny things too like rocks and coral.

All you have to do is flick your thumb to cast off your virtual reel and wait for a bite. When you have one you spin your finger to bring your fish into you.

There are even options to set your own tension and strength gauges. When you have caught your fish you get the opportunity to take a photo and then press the 'brag' button to publish on social networks such as Facebook, or send to friends who have iphones.

I like how the game isn't just one set scenery. You could be on a small boat or a proper shipping boat. There are waters for rivers, lakes and the sea, different background scenery's in general and water splashes onto the boat to give you that more realistic feel.

I would say this is great for enthusiastic kids who love fishing too. My 5 year old found it easy to understand and play, and he enjoyed himself.

Plain and simple looking. Good for people who don't like anything too flashy.

Advantages:

* You are able to keep your own number just by transferring your old Sim to this phone, and keep your monthly contract ongoing.
* Access to the Internet Windows Messenger and Skype
* The World time feature is really handy if you need to know how many hours in front or behind somewhere is.
* Camera, video camera, voice recorder, bluetooth
* Software and connection to upload your pictures and videos to your PC/laptop
* You can create your own music play list
* Set your own keyguard locks for auto, 10 seconds etc.

Disadvantages:

* Keys are a little heavy to press and are small. You have to use your nails really or you could end up pressing 2 keys at once.
* The calculator is very basic. It doesn't even have a % symbol. You can just do simple maths and use the decimal point.
* No games included you have to install.
* Cannot have a pictures of your contacts that show up when they call.
* Each time you send a text message you have to select name from contacts. There is no auto save of people you have sent messages to previously for quickness.
* No smiley face or animated text message characters.

Neutrals:

* The alarm is decent, as you get to choose your own snooze times. Although there is no reminder or notes section in the tool area. You have to write an 'alarm comment' when setting an alarm instead.
* Camera isn't amazing quality, but ok for someone who just likes to take general family pictures etc.
* You may not be able to fit your memory card from an old phone in this phones slot
* Not that many - or good ones at that ring tones and message tones.

My overall opinion on usability:

This is a really basic phone, that is suitable really for people who just want to make and receive calls, send and receive texts and take a few pictures only.

Definitely not a phone for people who love tech, or like to make use of all their phone features.

To me it serves it's purpose as a temporary phone and is inexpensive to buy.

I bought this mobile phone as my other one got damaged and was too expensive to repair, until i can get an upgrade on my contract in several months.
